Ron Paul Slides into Top Tier – Wins Debate by Telling Iowans — and America — the Truth
AMES, IOWA – August 11, 2011 – Thomas Woods – Once again, Ron Paul distinguished himself in a Republican presidential debate by telling Americans the truth, answering the questions he was asked, and refusing to treat his countrymen like ten-year-olds who should be spoken to in bumper-sticker slogans.
On the economy, everyone talked about lower taxes, cutting spending, and a balanced budget – the usual boilerplate. Only Ron Paul sought to explain why we have recessions in the first place. Only Ron Paul mentioned the critical role of the Federal Reserve System in blowing up the bubbles that have popped in America over the past decade. Only Ron Paul explained that the monetary system we have, whereby money can be created out of thin air whenever the political class wants it, is a recipe for the very kind of disaster we are living through right now.
To be sure, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had some critical words for particular Fed policies, but surely his recent criticism of the Fed is one of the exceedingly rare times, if not the only time, he has made serious mention of the Federal Reserve in over three decades in public life.
The only reason any of them will even talk about the Fed is Ron Paul, who took the issue from the depths of obscurity and turned it into a live issue for the first time in the nearly one hundred years of the Fed’s existence.
But where Congressman Paul really stood out, of course, was in foreign policy. He dismissed the comments of the neoconservative former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum as “war propaganda,” which indeed Senator Santorum can be relied upon to parrot at every opportunity. He explained that the history of U.S. relations in Iran did not begin with the hostage crisis in 1979, as Senator Santorum tried to pretend. It began with the U.S./British coup in 1953 that brought the oppressive shah to power, and it was resentment over his police state that turned Iranians against the U.S. Before the U.S. government’s interventions in the Middle East, Americans had an excellent reputation in that part of the world – another piece of history our political class ignores.
Our delicate ears are not supposed to hear the kinds of things Ron Paul told Americans tonight. We’re supposed to hear “USA! USA!” We are supposed to be flattered, told our leaders have infallible judgment, and urged to believe that anyone who questions that judgment, or who thinks anyone around the world might have a legitimate grievance against the American political class, “hates America.” Given how many grievances we Americans have with our political class, is it really so hard to imagine that other people might, too?
Everyone on the stage wanted to talk about budgets, but only Ron Paul pointed out that the wars are costing trillions of dollars, with a sixth war being seriously contemplated. This is pure insanity, and the only person who will level with the American people about it is Ron Paul.
It’s hard to imagine one person being so consistently and thoroughly vindicated as Congressman Paul. On the economy in particular, he has been warning for decades about the certain outcome of our monetary system and economic policies. The world is now beginning to undergo the exact convulsions he predicted would result.
Ron Paul is the only person on that stage who has the slightest grasp of what is happening in America and around the world right now. All they can do is repeat GOP talking points. Ron Paul knows the economics and the history inside and out.
Dr. Paul, who is often too humble even to say “I,” rarely points out in such a setting that he, alone among the candidates on stage, had been so prophetic about all this. That is where Revolution PAC comes in. We’re not humble at all. We intend to brag about Ron Paul like crazy. It is a scandal that Americans could even consider another candidate when a man of the intelligence and integrity of Ron Paul stands before them. He alone told us what was coming. He alone can point the way to a better future for America.
Dr. Paul’s prophetic words about the economic breakdown we are living through may be the best kept secret in America. At Revolution PAC, we refuse to keep it that way. Please help us spread the message!

I am so happy that we the people are finally getting it. It is not about appearance. It is not about money, it is not about who’s got the most presidential haircut or the best fitting suit. I have been following the political hoopla since it began, and I am not very knowledgeable about the election process. BUT, I do know that since I have been paying attention to this election process that I have fallen in love with Ron Paul. At first I thought he was too old, too meek, and too ignored to be a candidate with any chance at all. There had to be a reason that everyone ignored him. I honestly didn’t know anything about the man. But the more I watched and listened the sadder I became that they treated him with such lack of respect. And that’s when I knew that he was THE ONE. BECAUSE they all dismissed and ignored him. I began to see that there was a reason. And that reason was that they knew that if he won anything the world as we know it would change. FOR THE PEOPLE. And for them. The corrupt fat cats are shaking in their boots. No more cheating, lying and stealing from THE PEOPLE. Ron Paul I know in my heart would not ever allow that. He is one of us. He is the one of the 99% He is a President that I would pray for every night before I go to sleep. Amen.
There should be a poll. “If Ron Paul is not elected president, will you loose faith in the U.S. Government & America completely?”
1.) Yes
2.) Just the Government
3.) Just in America
4.) No
5.) Undecided
“Given how many grievances we Americans have with our political class, is it really so hard to imagine that other people might, too?”
I can’t say enough how you need to emphasize this point, especially when advertising and discussing Ron Paul’s foreign policy. It struck me right between the eyes when i read it…and i’m Australian!!! It articulates the sensibility of Ron Paul’s position in such a good way.
Please don’t leave this as just a brilliant point in this article, but advertise it like crazy. That is something that Americans need to hear because it puts into perspective how the rest of the world may view America – “If i have a problem with it, then why does it seem so far off that the world gets mad too?” – and if they gain that perspective, then Ron Paul’s argument becomes what is common sense and the neo-conservative position becomes stupid.
Before the debates occurred, I was watching Freedom Watch with the Judge. It was great, as he spoke highly of Dr. Paul and it seemed as though he was fully endorsing him for President. It is only the Judge and John Stossel that speak highly of him, where the others demean and minimize or just out right ignore Dr. Paul every chance they get. When Dr. Paul wins the Caucus, Bill O’Reilly will lose money,
As for Dr. Paul, he cured my Apathy and showed me the Natural Way of Healing this country.
Is it just me or does it look like the mic is giving Dr. Paul a soul patch?
Ron Paul was already top tier, its just a matter of will the mainstream catch on or will their heads remained buried in the sand.
Drew, I think their heads are buried in their butts. And the question is whether they will remain so. But, I agree that RP is already (and has been) top-tier.
Tom –
You’re absolutely right to point out Dr Paul’s humility; while it is part of his appeal as a candidate and a person I fear it sometimes works against him. For example, it was infuriating to listen to Michele Bachmann get away with bragging about how she “led on the debt ceiling issue”. The world needs to know that the real leader on that issue (and so many others) is the man who has voted against raising the debt ceiling at every opportunity over the last 35 years. Keep up the great work!
Mr. Woods states an important truth when he says:
“… the monetary system we have, whereby money can be created out of thin air whenever the political class wants it, is a recipe for the very kind of disaster we are living through right now.”
But I believe Mr. Woods may give additional power to his article and the entire Ron Paul campaign if he stated:
“… the monetary system we have, whereby money can be created out of thin air whenever the political class wants it, is a recipe for the very kind of disaster we are living through right now; but it MAY ALSO BE a recipe for FIXING the very kind of disaster we are living through right now.”
Fiat money substantially helped finance the Nation during the American Revolution and the Civil War. USED RESPONSIBLY, fiat money may help transform our Nation’s “military industrial complex” into our Nation’s “social economic development industrial complex.” Such a transformation may be critical and necessary to slowly return to a true and more efficient US Constitutional form of government.
That was easily the worst debate I’ve ever seen. Just an absolute joke. At least T-Paw and Bachman went at each other and showed the general public how petty and out of touch they are. Santorum trying to go up against Dr. Paul was great. Ron Paul will school any of these clowns in washington in any subject. People should know by now to not take him on 1on1, but good thing people are, it further shows that Ron Paul knows and understands the problems we have and how they can be fixed. Great Article Tom!!!!
if north americans would look at agenda 21
and YOUTUBE NEW WORLD ORDER
and know that the bushes were SKULL AND BONES DEATH CULT LIARS
if people would read the TEN PLANKS OF THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO
and know that CENTRAL BANKS THE FED
and graduated income tax and PUBLIC PUKE FREE SCHOOLS
come right out of the TEN pLANKS of the communist manifesto
wake up wake up
end the FED end the fraud end the FED end the lies
Dr Paul told it like it is. The rest are the counterfeits, he is the genuine. Pressure your reps to get on board. I got a letter response from one of my Senators. He mentioned that there is a Global War on Terror, as the reason we must keep so many secrets and spend so much money. I think he is the delusional one, or in with the freedom stealing, military industrial police state to make a killing off of our Islamofascism fears
type: “along among the candidates” — sic volo “alone”
Tee hee hee, Muphry’s Law: I meant “typo”
For the first time in history the rabble is free to educate itself on the realities of life. We’re here, young and old, receiving the message of liberty for the first time in many years.
I’m 28, i’m a veteran, i’m a former bleeding heart liberal “let’s fix the world” type guy.
Now is the time for us to use all of our intellectual capacity to make sure Ron Paul and his message permeate throughout our societies and countries for decades, if not centuries.
The hardest thing to grasp is that we succeed in spite of our leadership, not because of it.
Thank you for your support. I know there are lots in the military believe the same about Ron Paul. I would have liked him state last night how he has more military support than all the other candidates COMBINED… but, his humility keeps him in check.
Ron Paul sadly for the average joe needs to “look presidential” and its sad. Read a Thomas Jefferson biography and realize that true consitutional presidents dont want to be the “king.” Strutting around like they are above everyone. Ron is our founders reincarnated as far as I am concerned. I don’t want to notice fed interference in my daily life and Paul is the only man who will do that. I will tell my grandchildren about him and I am only 25. They will fall asleep to the stories of the last great statesman america ever had. THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND THE REAL DEAL: RON PAUL!!!!!!!!!!
Amen, Travis. RP still believes that the Constitution is law of the land and NO ONE is above the law. He is one of us. An ordinary man with extra-ordinary ideas.
Pros: well written article, informed candidate (Ron Paul), shoot from the hip honesty from Ron Paul
Con: Just like every other political group… too much on the page focuses on getting millions in donations.
To those who think Ron doesn’t look Presidential, how does $14.1 trillion in debt look to you?
Great point, Joe. I wonder how many who say RP doesn’t look “presidential” ever saw pictures of the other Presidents? The current one looks like a big-earred galoot. Too bad Obummer doesn’t give speeches in a downpour. He’d drown.
i am a canadian…. i have been educated by Dr Paul on soooo many things for about a year now and i firmly believe that he is the ONLY hope for not only the Americans but also for me and mine…. please elect this man for President or we are all f@#!ed!!! Dr P
aul is the only hope for a truly free world!!!
Since when did Gingrich take up the Federal Reserve as an issue? Fox actually gave him that question? Really? The Fed wouldn’t even be a debating point today if not for RP. Come on, Fox! Although I did enjoy Gingrich getting all up in Wallace’s grill. That was good.
I have a question about the meeting on the 20th. I’m planning on attending, but I’m attending with the impression that this is a 10th Amendment, Nullification meeting. Is this going to be a Ron Paul campaign meeting?
No, it’s not a campaign event for any candidate; please see details at http://www.nullifynow.com/kansascity
Spot on analysis Dr. Woods! See you Aug 20th in KC!
Dr. Paul is a remarkable man with a realistic plan of how to fix what is wrong with America. With poise and dignity he has staunchly defended liberty and the ideals of our founding fathers, even when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. This, unfortunately, has caused him to be black balled by the highly influenceable media of today. It is not only our right, but our duty to scream his message from the mountaintops so that he can no longer be ignored and written off. Thank God we all put our money in gold so we can now afford to support our champion as he races for glory. He cannot lose if we want for the America we love to remain in existence, and so we must heed this rallying call to defend and proclaim his message. Troll in the name of Ron Paul.
Almost too well written, Dr. Woods. (Undeclared) War and American (militaristic) presence around the world is the most important and expensive topic that should be discussed, but we talk about it like it is the weather. Also, if Santorum believes so strongly in this, why isn’t he over there stopping the Iranians from doing what he doesn’t want them to do?
I’d push for a Paul/Woods 2012 ticket!
Exactly how I saw the debate. His knowledge of history and economics surpasses those around him. I wish that when he paused at the question about the “divided congress” he had said, “Well, when elected president, I will educate these dummies about economics and when they finally see the light they will do whatever I say!” LOL
Dr. Paul doesn’t believe in a strong executive branch. For him to say “do as I say” goes against his beliefs
I believe the moderators gave Ron Paul plenty of time and was pleased to hear the crowds applaud him. However, he didn’t look very presidential, and he needs to work on his delivery. Other than that, he’s great. He’s got my vote!
I don’t get that from people. How does one look presidential and why is that important to you? How can I look like God? Presidential is a made up term for some type of stereotype that people have developed over the years. I’m not saying you are wrong, but different people have different perceptions of what is and what isn’t. I’d much rather have him in office than a 45 year old who has been brought up to give speeches and shake hands.
Unfortunately, I do think that his lack of a smooth delivery will hurt him. I hope I am wrong about this, and that people (other than those who are already his supporters) realize that he is what the country needs right now.
Many people just focus on how one looks (often the taller one is, the better), and how they “sound.” We’ll see how he does in the poll on Saturday.
We had “SMOOTH” with Obama and where did it get us?? Just like those who say a doctor has “no bedside manner”….that bedside manner isn’t what saves my life! What comes out of Ron Paul’s mouth is the truth and the answers we need….THAT’S ALL THAT’S IMPORTANT!
Paul, you”re right did Abe Lincoln look Presidential , Its not about the image its about the music or the message. He,s a statesmen, like Thomas Jefferson..I give him an A+ plus for honesty and Standing by his belifes And not flip flopping. And hanging tough on the issues . plus i love it when Ron Paul gets fisty.Rick Santorum Didn”t stand a chance, Paul Stands by his Policies over seas .Good man these people on stage could learn from him by following his examples ..
It is truly sad that our country is filled with brainwashed individuals who can not connect A to B to C. Due to laziness or (intentional?)ignorance, they get caught up in the “bumper stick” slogans and vote like they are voting for a high school Sr President.
Great article Tom. You and an excellent writer. I am glad individuals like yourself and Dr Paul are on our side.
You’re right Luke. It’s sad that we have a country of folks who do a good job of not thinking for themselves or thinking critically, for that matter. If you ask me, it stems from the fact that most folks have been educated, and I use that word very lightly, in the US public school system, which breeds state “drones” who lap up whatever line the government feeds them. To be sure, there are some, myself included, who have broken free from the propaganda fed to us while in the public school systemn – we truly see things as they are. But there are countless others who have not broken free. And that’s a shame.
Great article Tom. Keep up the great work.
I agree that Dr. Paul won the debate. The term that you are looking for in your post to describe the intellectual laziness is “intellectual sloth”, and yes, there are a lot of folks out there who do not or will not bring themselves to think for themselves. Josef Stalin called them “useful idiots”, and, they, like the poor, will be with us always, to paraphrase Jesus.
Those Fox news commentators during the comercial breaks were ridiculous and down right ignorant. They thought the smartest candidate and the candidate that wasn’t talking mainstream ideas was Newt Gingrich. Then there was that one guy one was disappointed that there wasn’t really any debate going on, and no real ideas being put forth on this debate…
Obviously they must of muted their T.V. when Ron Paul was speaking.
That’s why we call it Faux News… What a bunch of globalist lackies…
They’ve been told to ignore Dr. Paul as much as they can. We must understand that not everyone can grasp economic theory or the reality of it. They’re counting on us to choose one of the pretty Bobble-heads they’ve lain before us.
OMG YOU’RE SO RIGHT. I was raging at my computer screen during the breaks.
